Michael Lederer is an American writer with a multifaceted writing life. He is a playwright, poet, short story writer, essayist, screenwriter and novelist. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the Dubrovnik Shakespeare Festival.
His work reflects aspects of real life of society in general as well as personal experiences as inspiration for his literary work. On this occasion, Michael will talk about his literary work and will read some excerpts of from it. He will be open to answer questions from the audience!
His play “Casual Baggage” was presented as part of “The Literature Series of the U.S. Embassy, Berlin” in cooperation with the English Teathre Berlin ? International Performing Arts Center in January 2023. His play is the true story of a group of Jewish refugees who arrived in America during WWII. Among the refugees, is Ivo J. Lederer, his father, who was a professor of contemporary European Diplomatic history in Princeton and Yale.
His script Saving America won the PAGE International Screening Awards In 2019, and his Mundo Overloadus was presented in Broadway, New York in 2010. Other works by Michael Lederer include In the Widdle Wat of Time, 2016, Cadaqués, 2014, Nothing lasts Forever Anymore, Barcelona: Parsifal Ediciones, 1999 / Berlin: PalmArtPress, 2013; The Great Game: Berlin-Warsaw Express and Other Stories, 2012. Michael also writes for various journals and essays for the American Studies Journal.
